Meixian
梅县区
About the village
Meixian is not a single Hakka village but a district of Meizhou in Guangdong, China. It is a major Hakka settlement and an ancestral home for many Hakka families whose descendants now live in Taiwan and elsewhere around the world. Historically known as Chengxiang County, Meixian was largely rural, with Songkou as a notable town. Today it surrounds much of central Meizhou and is especially significant for its Hakka language: alongside nearby Dabu County, it is regarded as a home of Standard Hakka.
